Delusional Disorder
Delusional disorder is a type mental illness causing psychosis and paranoia. Anyone suffering from delusional disorder will have a hard time shaking the belief bad things are unavoidably going to happen. Rarely, this disorder is an individual disorder. It is normally accompanied by another mental illness. There are several types of delusional disorders; this depends on the type of delusion the afflicted person is suffering from. The symptoms can vary from person to person, even if the diagnosis is the same.
Schizophrenia is the most common mental illness that causes delusional disorder. The afflicted person will have hallucinations, or see things that are not really there. They may also hear sounds that are in their head, or have strong beliefs a specific situation happened one way when in reality the situation is highly exaggerated or not true at all. This person is having the delusion, a dream that to them is real even though it is not.
The disorder covers a wide range of feelings. Some of them are feelings that certain people are in love with them when they truly are not. Sometimes the person is overly jealous, have an inflated ego and feeling of self-worth. Many times, delusional disorder persists with a mixture of erratic emotions including the ones listed. It can affect relationships, employment, and even daily life, there are cases where someone has suffered from delusional disorder and has been able to hold an average everyday life.
Some of the symptoms and warning signs of delusional disorder are similar to other mental illnesses. The afflicted person can be highly irritable and moody. They may suffer from hallucinations which could seem like someone acting weird, following or talking to someone that is not actually there, or calling authorities reporting someone is trying to harm them when there is no one actually there. Anyone presenting these symptoms should immediately be checked out by a qualified doctor to ensure they are not a harm to themselves or anyone around them.
Delusional disorder can be caused by a variety of factors. Though it can be a genetic issue, it can also be caused by a number of other problems. The afflicted person could also be suffering from another mental illness that is not being treated, such as schizophrenia. The disorder makes the afflicted have over exaggerated feelings of jealousy, dread, or self-worth. The symptoms can be easy to identify and anyone presenting them should immediately be checked out.
