Euthanasia And Physician Assisted Suicide
There are many individuals out there with terminally ill diseases who want to end their lives on their terms. There are about six states in the United States that allow individuals to end their lives on their own terms. But, they are only allowed to do so if they have a terminally ill disease that is not curable and not treatable. Many people would rather live the last few years or months of their lives with dignity and end their life in a dignified manner. Many people are deciding to end their lives earlier than expected by way of euthanasia or physician assisted suicide.
One main reason why euthanasia has become very popular among individuals who want to commit suicide is because it is a very controlling and comfortable way to die from a serious illness. No one wants to die from a deadly illness that causes them to be bedridden and unable to care for themselves. No one wants to depend on others or burden their family with caring for them, after the disease takes over their body, and causes them to be unable to care for themselves on a regular basis. Physician Assisted Suicide has become a very popular way for individuals to die because they are being monitored by a doctor to ensure that they are not doing nothing that can harm them in anyway. Also, with Assisted Suicide, individuals are able to die in a peaceful and quiet way.
But, many individuals prefer to live as long as possible despite having a terminal disease. Some people feel that individuals who decide to end their life early are being selfish and are only thinking about themselves. Also, because of their religious beliefs decide not to end their life early due to a serious illness. Some individuals, due to religious beliefs, will not do assisted suicide because they are afraid that after death they will not go to heaven or have eternal happiness in the afterlife.
There is great debate concerning Euthanasia and Physician Assisted Suicide because of the legal complications, religious beliefs, and societal views on the issue. But, at the end of the day, it should be considered a personal decision between the individual and their doctor. Certain personal rights should not be interfered with, especially how a person will live their life. At times, we will have to make decisions in life that others may not like or agree with, but we should be able to make decisions that are in our best interest for ourselves.
