Why You Should Stay Away From Using Common Essay Topics
If you are writing essays online, we know that your professor wants to see something exciting, and something that helps you to think outside of the box. If you use the same standard essay topics as everyone else, chances are you may just bore your professor, or you may duplicate, or turn in similar work that someone else has. We have a few reasons why you should avoid using the same common essay topics noted below and ways ensure that you get a better grade!
- One reason that you want to ensure that you think through your essay topic, is that your professor is looking for originality. For example if your professor says to write about social media, your first idea that might come to mind might be to write about Facebook or Instagram, but maybe everyone in your whole class will write about them. A better alternative is to think outside of the box and maybe anticipate what the next great social media initiatives might be and tie in where Facebook or Instagram are making their mistakes.
- Another area that you should be careful with and something to avoid, is writing based on what you Google online. If your professor gives you a topic, your entire class might Google the exact same topic, worded the exact same way. What happens in cases like this, is everyone finds a similar answer under Wikipedia which might come up as the first answer and all the papers look the same. To avoid this, search through and don’t use wikipedia.
- When you do a search, you want to ensure that you're giving details, poignancy and information into your essay. Consider thinking outside of the box with your essay topic, and ways you can do that include contrasting an idea, comparing an idea with something else, or researching back in history to when the idea initiated or was first discussed.
- Another area that might help you is to stay off the internet altogether and write from your heart. There’s so much plagiarized information online that you can’t always trust online content. When you write with a passion for the work that you're doing, this shows that you have done the work yourself and it's not going to be something that's found online and mirrors your classmates work.
- Also consider writing from the book. You don't want to plagiarize, but consider reverting to your book for references and examples, and you can even base your essay topic around a case study that is utilized in your book. Maybe the book example is about China, and the history of manufacturing in China. Where are they now in manufacturing? You can give a correlation and have an excellent paper that's not like everyone elses.
By thinking outside of the box and being resourceful, you can come up with a great paper and a page turner your professor will be proud of. At least he’ll stay awake and he or she might give you an ‘A’ just because you didn’t use wikipedia!
