Ethical Dilemmas Within An Organization
Companies face many ethical dilemmas when it comes to keeping their worker safe and try to save money. Most ethical dilemmas are specific to a certain organization or company and can vary. And the bad thing about ethical dilemmas an organization is that if someone gets hurt, it hurts the person and the company. It doesn’t matter what the industry or the organization but there are some common ethical dilemmas that most organizations face.
The health and safety is high on the list of ethical dilemmas that companies have to deal with. Some organizations cut corners to save money and then end up putting their employee’s safety and health in danger. Organizations that specialize in manufacturing sometimes only meet the minimum requirements for safety, which puts their workers at risk because they can be working with dangerous materials and with dangerous equipment that can lead to serious injury or even death. This isn’t only for these kinds of jobs; offices put their employees at risk because of sitting or standing all day, which can lead to health issues. This might sound like a good thing to do for the organizations but in the long run if an accident occurs, the organization will suffer greatly.
Another ethical dilemma is in form of technology, employees that work on computers all day are subject to have all of their online and emails monitored by their organization. This can be an invasion of privacy on the part of the employer. Employers do have to right to do this but how is this ethical unless they have a valid reason to do so. Because of all the scandals with business that pulled one over on their consumers and ended up price, is the next ethical dilemma. This dilemma is being completely honest with your customers. Lying to them can put a business in hot water and they open themselves up to lawsuits. So if you lie to your customers to sell something then you are putting yourself and business in danger.
All employees should have fair working conditions but some employers cut corners or turn a blind eye at this. All employees are suppose to get paid a fair wage and benefits and employees should not be discriminated at work. Employers get away with some of these by only hiring them part time, so they get a lower wage and no benefits or they cut their hours with no warning to save money, which leaves them understaffed.
